The End

So it was in chap. 34 that Milady actually died. She put up a really good fight and almost conspired with 2 of the servents and had d'Artagnan rescue her but Athos was to swift for her. Next d'Artagnan was summonded to meet the Cardinal. He thought it was very bad and had a few twists but in the end the Cardinal gave d'Artagnan a slip for a promosion but the name was blank. So d'Artagnan offered it to all of his friends but each for a different reason said no. So he ended up at Athos's house and Athos took the paper from him and wrote d'Artagnan's name on it. So the story wraps up. Porthos marries his mistress after her husband died. Aramis joins a moneistary. Athos stays in the Muskeeters for a little while under d'Artagnan's athority than retires. And last but not least d'Artagnan stays a Muskeeter for the time.

I liked how it wraped up I thought that the stuff with the Cardinal was a last bit of drama to end the book off nicely.

She Dies

So in this section all the women die. Well the two most important women. Milady gets to the convent first (oh on). And she befriend d'Artagnan lover underfalse prefences. Milady after being there one day escapes and to get revenge on d'Artagnan she poisions his lady right before she leaves and he gets there. But d'Artagnan gets to say a few lasts words to her before she slips away. So shes dead. Than the hunt begins. Lord de Winter joins the group also does a mystery man that Athos enlisted help from. They finally find Milady and they desend upon her. They have their own trial. The mystery man was an esecuter so he does his job gladly (because she had done something to him also). So she is dead to. Then the 4 Muskeeters head back to join their ranks.

I was so sad when Constance died. I was kind of thinking that Milady really deserved to die after that. And when she does it really all starts to wind
down.

Athos Enocounters Evil

At the beginning of this section the 3 Musketeers encounter the Cardinal who is meeting with Milady and the Musketeers overhear their conversation. Then Athos goes to face his wife. He gets the orders the Cardinal gives to him and rushes off to talk to the other Musketeers and d'Artagnan. They tell him the story after having to find a quite place which was very difficult. Then they think up a very elaborate plan to save the day which includes selling the ring the queen gave to d'Artagnan. After the plan is executed and everything seems to be going well they find out that Milady is going to the same convent that d'Artagnan's lover is at and they rush of to save her. Meanwhile Milady arrives and schemes to be friends with everybody. Then the man from Meung one of the Cardinal's secret agents comes to save her.

I am riveted I am dying to see how the book comes to a close.

To Begin the Campaign

The section starts with d'Artagnan ruining to Athos's house in the dress Kitty gave him. After he tells Athos the tale they Realize that Milady was actually Athos's old wife. When d'Artagnan got home he had Kitty waiting for him wanting his help to flee so he sent for Aramis and go it arranged. Then he gets two letters one from his first love and one from the Cardinal. So he gets to have a glimpse of his love then he goes to the Cardinals headquarters and the Cardinal offers him a job that he politely declines. Then they leave for the campaign. He is twice attacked by two men that Milady hired, the second time one is killed and the second d'Artagnan lets stay alive because of what he knows. But shortly after that he receives some wine that is supposedly from his 3 friends but is really poisoned and from Milady. The second attacker that he let live drinks it and dies. :(

This is an interesting turn of events. I want to see how he gets himself out of the trouble with Milady. And I thought it was very noble and kind to let the second hit man live.

The Evil One

In these chapters d'Artagnan finally finds the lady from Mueng. Her name is Clarice de Winter. She is an agent of the Cardinals. She is ruthless when she wants to get revenge on someone and sweet when she needs to be. D'Artagnan falls in love with her. What a surprise! But the twist is that her servant falls in love with him, and all along the lady from Mueng only wants revenge on d'Artagnan. For more than one reason. But he finds that out and uses the poor servant's (Kitty) love to help him plot against her. After he gets away with breaking de Winters heart he is so stupid and tells her the whole thing her did, all because she said she "loved" him. So then she gets very mad and somehow in the struggle to get away from d'Artagnan her robe comes down and he sees the mark of a criminal. Then she gets even more enraged and gets out a gold knife and starts chasing him around her room. He does get to Kitty's room and out but he had to put on a dress or go naked.

My reaction to this is that d'Artagnan is so very very very stupid! I cannot believe he actually told her about his plot and that he would think she loved him. And it was so mean to use Kitty like that, and not to head Athos's warning. Right now I don't even really want to finish the book because I don't think he could get in anymore trouble and I don't see how he will get himself out of this mess.

The Quest for Love

In these chapters d'Artagnan goes on a mission to Paris for his love. Well kind of, it is really for the Queen but his love askes him to do it so of course he does. The quest is to go to London to get the Queen's diamond tags back from her lover, the Duke of Buckingham. It is of great importance because the King is giving her a ball and the Cardinal told him to ask her to wear them to get out the Queen and Dukes secret love. So d'Artagnan and his 3 musketeer friends race off to get to Paris in time to get them for the Queen to wear. Along the way they have a few problems. First Porthos gets in a fight(big surprise) and has to stay where he was hurt. Then Aramis prevokes some rode works and gets shot in the sholder and has to be left at the closest tow. Then Athos steps into a trap laid by the Cardinal to stop them and so the only one to make it to England is d'Artagnan and his servant. But there is still farther to get to Londan and the Duke. D'Artagnan has to fight a man (the Cadinal's cousin) to get a pass to London. Then he meets with the Duke, gets the tags back, hurries back to Paris and saves the day/ball. But to soon after that his love is kidnapped once again and he does as much as he can to save her then leaves Paris to escape the wrath of the Cadinal and to see how his friends are. He finds them all alive but somewhat wounded. And he gets to hear Athos's drunken confesion of his really really bad marriage, which is the reason he does not believe in love anymore.

I thkought that these chapters were filled with action. It was cool to see him save the day and get to be the hero. I wish his "girlfriend" would quit getting in truble. And what is up with her husband helpping to kidnap her. That man is wipped by the Cardinal. I was very relieved to find out that all of the musketeers where safe and cannot wait to see how they rescue d'Artagnan's girlfriend.

Love Makes a Person Do Stange Things

In these capters our hero finds himself in a conspiracy much bigger than he ever expceted, or really understands. He also falls in love with the women he was sent to find. His coureosity and her combined is what got in into the tangled web. Athos, one of his musketeer friends, got arrested for him. Thankfully Monsieur de Treville got in out of prison.

It is getting really interesting. I think it is extremely annoying how quickly he "fell in love" and how stupid he acts because of it. However the plot is getting really heavy and interesting. It seems like everyone is invovled and that makes for a really good story.

The Start of Something Big

In these chapters our hero, d'Artagnan, has become fast friends withe the three musketeers who challenged him. This happened because some of the Cardinals guards caught their duel and challenged them. D'Artagnan decided to side with the king and fight alongside of his challengers. After they all became friends his landlord comes to him with an inquiry, to help him find his kidnapped wife, which our hero and his friends agree to do. And this starts a whole new adventure.

In most books I can usually guess what is going to happen, but this one is keeping me on my toes. It has intrigue around every conner and is never very foretelling about what is going to happen next. It is fast becoming a very good book.

The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas

The story starts with a narators opinion of our character. Then it talks about his horse. Then the story gets more exciting, the main character challenges a stranger to a duel. It is shown very early that d'Artagnan has a very hot temper. That combined with his mission to find Monsieur de Treville is basically what the first chapters are. His quick temper gets him in three challenges with three musketeers all within a few hours. His next day starts at 12 and then he has the next fight at 1 then the next at 2. So if he survives them he will be very sore and very tired.

I felt like it was very slow to start out but once it started it really got going. I think that I will really enjoy this book and really cannot wait to continue reading it.
